01. The fundamental period can be lengthened away from the rich periods contents of earthquake motions by using LRB devices. The accumulated seismic energy in the base isolator can be dissipated by the viscous damping.
02. The seismic responses of the superstructure can be effectively dissipated when the fundamental periods of the base isolated structure are in the vicinity of the long predominant periods of an earthquake.
03. It is unsuitable for light structures or structures with varying masses.
04. The behavior of the material of rubber and lead is dependent on the temperature.
05. It is cost effective. However, its disadvantages are fireproofing capability and poisonous lead.
06. In 2007, lead materials will be banned in the European Union.
